10 Fun Things to do in Louisville During the Fall: #2 Go to the Churchill Downs
With fall upon us, I would like to devote a series of blog posts to interesting things that you can do during the Fall in Louisville. Without further ado I would like to present:
#2 - Go to the Churchill Downs
The Churchill Downs first opened in 1875 and has been holding annual races ever since. In late October, the Churchill Downs open up for their annual Fall Meet series of races. In addition to the regularly scheduled October/November races, this year the track is also holding the renowned Breeder's Cup on November 4th-5th. Whether the track is holding the Breeder's Cup or not, the fall is a great time to go bet the ponies, as they say.
Along with great horse racing, the Churchill Downs also has a interesting museum, The Kentucky Derby Museum, which gets over 210,000 visitors every year. The museum was rennovated in 2010 due to water damage and has added some very interesting exhibits. One thing that I found to be very cool about the Derby Museum is that there is a a 360-degree theater that shows an HD video called The Greatest Race.
