10 Fun Things to do in Louisville During the Fall: #8 Visit the Louisville Mega Cavern

With fall upon us, I would like to devote a series of blog posts to interesting things that you can do during the Fall in Louisville. Without further ado I would like to present:

#8 - Visit the Louisville Mega Cavern

The Louisville Mega Cavern is a 100 acre limestone cavern that was originally used as a mine to provide limestone for the construction of new roads and bridges. The cavern is located under the Louisville Zoo and maintains a constant temperature of 56 degrees fahrenheit throughout the year. The Mega Cavern lay dormant for 20 years before it was turned into a tourist attraction.

Today the Louisville Mega Cavern offers a few exciting options for its visitors. There are guided, hour-long tram tours throughout the cavern in which visitors can learn the history of the mine and other interesting facts. Also, the Mega Cavern also holds the world's first and only underground ziplines. The five ziplines span throughout the cavern and offer people an exciting, adrenaline-filled way to see the mine.
