2012 Week in the Highlands Festival
In the fall the Highlands area can offer many things to do at virtually any time of the day. From restaurants to shopping and educational centers, the Highlands have many different aspects of entertainment, education, recreation and cuisine for you to choose from. One of the major annual events that take place in the Highlands is the ‘2012 Week in the Highlands’ event that provides residents, as well as members of the entire Louisville community a chance to celebrate, as well as put on display the many diverse, historical features of the Highland area.
Highland Community Ministries is the greatest recipient of the benefits from the event. HCM is an organization that does a lot for the Highland community such as provide clothing and food assistance to those in need, care for senior citizens, as well as recreational outings, child care and sports programs for youth. By attending the Week in the Highlands festival, a lot of the proceeds go to such programs in the local community. So like many of the events and festivals posted here, there is also an aspect of giving back that accompanies the festival.
The Week in the Highlands event wouldn’t be possible without a lot of support from many local foundations. This year’s event will be in collaboration with the Belknap Neighborhood Association, the Farmington Historic Plantation, the Highlands-Douglass Neighborhood Association and again the help of the Highlands Community Ministries. The event got its initial start 13 years ago, when each organization decided to collaborate on one event that would showcase what each neighborhood had to offer and also solidify community ties between those areas, as well as put the Highlands and it’s high culture on display to the entire Louisville community.
Week in the Highlands 2012 will be an event that the entire family can enjoy, especially those groups that are interested in art, culture, music and the historical aspect of the Louisville community. Be sure and check out some of the events and pay attention to other events that Highland Community Ministries may host in the future.
