A Weekend of Art

It’s a weekend of art! There’s nothing that ushers in the arrival of fall like festivals and art fairs. Now is the perfect time to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather while it’s still here. Combine those things, and you’ve got a great destination this weekend.

Art in the Park Picnic

The Speed Art Museum might be changing, but Local Speed is bridging the gap. In the meantime, there is a full calendar of events sponsored by The Speed Art Museum. One of them is this coming Sunday.

The Art in the Park Picnic is a fun way to spend your afternoon. This free picnic will be held at the beautiful Cherokee Park at Hogan’s Fountain. We’re in that transition from summer to fall, now is a great time to enjoy the outdoors and celebrate art!

Those who attend the picnic can expect to engage in a variety of artistic activities. Games will be set up to enjoy, with music to enjoy as well. The Louisville Old Times Squares Association will be on hand to help everyone try their hand at square dancing.

You can bring your own picnic lunch, or purchase food and drinks from Rooibie Tea and the Frankfort Avenue Beer Depot. Don’t forget to pack your favorite picnic blanket or camping chair. The Art in the Park Picnic will take place on Sunday, September 7th from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Hogan’s Fountain at Cherokee Park is located at 745 Cochran Hill Rd.

September Art Fair at Mellwood Art Center

Now in its sixth year, the Mellwood Art Center is hosting its September Art Fair this weekend. Over two hundred resident artists will have their artwork displayed and available to purchase. There are an additional one hundred and sixty five juried artists who will complete the art fair. Come view the best of both this weekend!

Artist booths will be set up inside and out. There is something for everyone, including baskets, photography, pottery, fine crafts and paintings. Additional art will include glass, jewelry, metal and sculptures. Mixed mediums will also be represented.

There will be a special section for activities such as children’s art and craft projects. Live entertainment will be on site for guests to enjoy. Food and beverage vendors will also provide items to purchase.

Admission is free to this great local art fair. Start the fall season off right by purchasing a new piece to enjoy this season! The September Art Fair at the Mellwood Art Center will run Saturday, September 6th and Sunday, September 7th from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
