Butchertown's Porktoberfest 2013

Who doesn't love good food? In a world full of people with different preferences and viewpoints, food is the one things that unites everybody. Obviously, everybody has to eat, and although we might vary on what we like to eat in particular, there are few things better than sitting down to a plate of your favorite food. One of the great unifiers in this world is pork. In popular culture, bacon has exploded in recent years, with many people coming to terms with the fact that it may indeed be the best food ever. If you're a fan of pork, barbeque, bacon, and all things pig, then there's an event for you coming up later this month--Porktoberfest!

While the main focus of Porktoberfest is, as you may have guessed, pork, vegetarians are welcome as well, and plenty of options will be offered to Porktoberfest's meatless attendees. Essentially, Porktoberfest is a competition to determine who serves the best dishes. Along with the "Best Vegetarian" award, there will be awards given to "Judges' Choice", "People's Choice", "Most Creative", and "Best Dessert". While a panel of judges will be awarding most of these honors, guess what decision you get to be a part of? That's right, the "People's Choice". And do you know what that means? In order to be qualified to help decide who wins, you'll have to eat a good amount of pork, bacon, and barbeque. I know, it's a hard job, but somebody has to do it.

I'm being sarcastic, of course--who wouldn't love the job of sampling some of the region's best barbeque? Some of Louisville's best restaurants will be competiting at Porktoberfest including Jack Knife, Harvest, Rye, The Bristol, and many others. The event is free as well, so just to recap--attending Porktoberfest means an almost unlimited amount of delicious pork, bacon, barbeque, and desserts. For Louisville's most passionate pork-lovers, attending this event is a must. Porktoberfest will be hold at The Pointe, a large venue which can be found at 1205 E. Washingtown Street in the Butchertown area of Louisville.

Porktoberfest will be happening on October 11th from 5 PM to 10, so go ahead and mark your calendars for this exciting (and tasty!) event.
