Derby Celebrations Kick Off With Great Concerts

It’s a busy week around Louisville. Things are heating up at the track and the final Derby Festival Events are taking place, as we all anticipate the greatest two minutes in sports. If you’ve not taken advantage of this unique culture, there’s still time to join in and enjoy the Derby Festivities. There are several great concerts around town this week in honor of the big day.

Tonight Fourth Street Live is hosting country duo Big & Rich. The duo was recently nominated for vocal duo of the year at the 2014 ACM Awards. Come check out their newest single “Look at You.” Fourth Street Live and New Country Q103.1 are sponsoring this concert. Make sure you arrive before 7:00 p.m., otherwise a $5.00 cover charge applies. Ages 21 and under are welcome until 9:00 p.m. and must be accompanied by a legal guardian. The concert takes place Thursday, May 1st.

If country music isn’t your thing, don’t worry. Fourth Street Live welcomes Fall Out Boy to Louisville on Friday, May 2nd. Come enjoy this rock band, as the play their new single “Alone Together.” Come rock it out with Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley. Budweiser and Fourth Street Live are sponsoring this Derby Eve party! The party starts at 8:00 p.m. A cover charge of $5.00 applies after 7:00 p.m. Ages 21 and older after 9:00 p.m. Guests under 21 are welcome until 9:00 p.m. when accompanied by a legal guardian. Not to be undone, the Kentucky Derby Festival has a great lineup for their Waterfront Jam this weekend. Things kickoff tonight, May 1st with performances by The Fray and The Mowgli’s. The Frey released their fourth album earlier this year titled Helios. The Mowgli’s will open for the The Fray starting at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 1st. Laura’s Lean Beef and 102.3 The Max are sponsoring this concert. Tickets are required and range from $32.50 to $50.00.

The second night of Waterfront Jams will open with country music artist Steve Holy, perhaps best known for his hit “Good Morning Beautiful.” Holy will be followed by Cassadee Pope. The winner of The Voice season 3, Pope just released her first album Frame by Frame. The headliner for Friday evening’s concert is Scotty McCreery. A previous winner of American Idol, McCreery has already won numerous awards. His See You Tonight tour will hit Louisville’s Waterfront Park on May 2nd starting at 6:30 p.m. The concert is sponsored by Laura’s Lean Beef and 97.5 WAMZ. Tickets range from$32.50 to $50.00.
