Easter Events in Louisville

The week leading up to Easter can get pretty busy. Easter Basket? Check. Candy for said baskets? Check. Picture with the Easter Bunny? Eggs stuffed? Easter outfit bought? Check, check, check! If you find yourself wishing for some quality family time this weekend, there are some great Easter events around Louisville.

The Avenue Easter Parade

Looking to put a spin on the traditional Easter Bunny visit this year? The 22nd annual Easter Parade will march down Frankfort Ave this weekend. Children will get an early sugar high as they munch on free candy throughout the parade. Onlookers will get to see local dance teams, bagpipers, Hwang’s Martial Artists, the Animal House Adoption Center, Shriner’s, homemade family floats and antique cars. Make sure you watch for the talking police car, bubble truck and the mounted sheriff’s posse. Tina Ward-Pugh will get things started as the grand marshall.

The Avenue Easter Parade will be on Saturday April 19th from approximately 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Frankfort Ave. will be shut down between Kennedy and Haldeman due to the parade route. If you’d like a ride back to your car, catch a trolley. The Frankfort Ave. trolleys will run after the parade is finished until 2:00 p.m.

Louisville Zoo’s Eggstravaganza Weekend

Visitors can enjoy Eggstravaganza Weekend free with entry to the Louisville Zoo. Children will be able to hunt for eggs at one of many designated times throughout the afternoon. Fields will be set up for ages five and under, and ages six to ten years old. Egg hunt times alternate between the two groups every thirty minutes between 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The egg hunt is free, just remember to bring a basket or bag to collect your eggs in. All participants will receive a treat bag at the end of the hunt.

Bring your camera, there will be a great photo opportunity in the Eggstravaganza area. Plan on staying a while, games will be set up for families to enjoy. Guests can also enjoy a scavenger hunt that focuses on some of the zoo’s coolest egg laying animals. The Easter Bunny will also be at the Zoo from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Visit the Louisville Zoo to learn more about Eggstravaganze and zoo admission.
