Great Events at Carmichael's Bookstore This Week

Have you ever heard of World Book Night? Each year on April 23rd, in honor of Shakespeare’s birthday and death, people around the country celebrate their love of reading. The goal of World Book Night is to introduce a love for reading in adults across the US. Avid readers across the country will be passing out a free copy of one of thirty-five pre-selected books. If you see someone chasing you down while waving a paperback at you on Wednesday, they might just be giving you a gift book in honor of World Book Night!

While it’s too late to sign up to be a World Book Night Giver this year, you can still join in on the celebration! Carmichael’s Bookstore will be celebrating the love of reading on Tuesday by hosting members of KY Shakespeare. Members will perform some of Shakespeare’s works and read sonnets throughout the evening. Carmichael’s will provide refreshments for guests. This event starts Tuesday, April 21st at 7:00 p.m.

Can’t make it to celebrate World Book Night? That’s okay, because Carmichael’s has several great events on their calendar over the next week. Their next event is An Evening with Coach John Calipari at the Clifton Center. Unfortunately for all UK fans, this event is already sold out. That doesn’t mean you can’t go to Carmichael’s and purchase a copy of Coach Cal’s new book Players First: Coaching from the Inside Out. Draw from the lessons he has learned during his four first years as coach at the University of Kentucky.  If you're a UK fan, you'll enjoy this read!

Kentucky native Jacinda Townsend will be at Carmichael’s Bookstore on Friday April 25th at 7:00 p.m. Her debut novel is titled Saint Monkey. Townsend’s story follows an adolescent in Eastern Kentucky who faces segregation and life following the Korean War. Townsend will be on hand at Carmichael’s for a book signing and reading from her new novel.  Townsend is currently a professor at IU in Bloomington, but was born in south central Kentucky where she lived until she went to Harvard.

If none of these events are tempting, what about attending a book discussion and signing with The Minimalists? Ryan Nicodemus and Joshua Fields Millburn will be at Carmichael’s on Sunday, April 27th at 7:00 p.m. as a part of their Everything That Remains Tour. This latest book is a memoir that details Millburn’s life and the path that lead him to living a more simplistic lifestyle. Come prepared to laugh and be challenged! Learn more by visiting The Minimalists website.

Carmichael’s asks that you please rsvp on their Facebook page if you plan on attending any of their events. All events above will be held at the Carmichael’s Bookstore Crescent Hill location at 2720 Frankfort Ave. unless otherwise noted.
