New Year's Eve: A Family Celebration

New Year’s Eve is a time of celebration, whether you spend a night out on the town, hit the club or host a party in your home. Many will count down the New Year while watching the ball drop on TV. It’s pretty easy for adults to find a way to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Louisville. Just ask Siri or Google and they’ll have you rsvp’d in no time. But what about celebrations that are family friendly?

The Kentucky Science Center is hosting Noon Year’s Celebration to help your family ring in 2014. Load your kids into the car and head to the museum where you can explore, engage and celebrate! In honor of the event, special science exploration centers will be set up where you can discover how traditional and uncommon traditions that people use to bring in the New Year. Your children can get their creative juices flowing at featured craft centers. Make sure you arrive in time to celebrate the New Year with the spectacular Balloon Drop. The balloon drop will be featured both on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day at noon. Special exhibits currently on display at the Kentucky Science Center include Hats! Reflection in Time and Science in Play. These events are sure to bring smiles and laughter to your celebration of the New Year. Don’t forget to check out the IMAX Theater, currently featuring Flight of Butterflies. The Noon Year’s Celebration is free with general admission. Admission for children ages 2-12 to permanent exhibits is $11.00, or $16.00 including an IMAX ticket. For ages 13 years and older, admission is $11.00 for permanent exhibits or $18.00 including an IMAX ticket. The Noon Year’s Celebration will take place on Dec. 31st and Jan. 1st from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. General hours are 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. both days. The Kentucky Science Center is located at 727 W. If science isn’t your forte, the Louisville Library is hosting a Preschool Dance Party on New Year’s Eve on Dec. 31st at 2:00 p.m. Preschoolers ages 2-5 can get their groove on at this New Year’s themed event. They will enjoy book readings, snacks and of course – dancing! This is a fun way to let your preschooler celebrate the New Year and still keep their normal bedtime, ensuring that you can dance the night away yourself.
