The Clifton Center

Louisville has plenty of venues for events like concerts and movies, but each of them are very different. For example, when it comes to big events that might draw a stadium's worth of people, the YUM! Center in Downtown Louisville is probably where you'll find them. In coming months, big names such as Beyonce and Justin Timberlake will be playing there. Another big venue for musicians is the Louisville Palace, which be seeing such names as Michael McDonald and Martina McBride. For more eclectic performers, though, as well as many other events, the place you'll want to check out is the Clifton Center.

As you might've guessed, the Clifton Center can be found in the Clifton area of town. Along with the nearby Frankfort Avenue, Clifton is one of the coolest places to live. You can find special eateries, shops, and the ever-popular Clifton Center. As I mentioned, one of the biggest roles the Clifton Center fulfills is the role of a venue space. In their theater, which holds over 450 people, many different artists and bands have come to perform. In the coming months, the Clifton Center will be seeing acts like soulful singer/songwriter Marc Cohn, jazz guitarist Bill Frisell, and Punjabi vocalist Kiran Ahluwalia. These may not be as universally-known names as Beyonce and Justin Timberlake, but there's certainly a demand for talented and original musicians in Louisville. If you're looking to see a talented singer or musician in town, chances are you'll find one performing at the Clifton Center.

The Clifton Center fulfills other roles as well. The same theater also screens films on occasion. The documentary "Out of Print", narrated by Meryl Streep, discusses the transition from printed, physical books to ebooks, and will be shown for free on November 17th. The film "David", which follows a young Muslim boy who befriends a Jewish boy in Brooklyn, will also be shown for free on February 9th. If you don't have any plans, why not stop by the Clifton Center and catch a free movie? If neither one of these interest you, just keep an eye on the Clifton Center's website, linked here: They'll be adding new events as they're scheduled throughout the year.

If you're looking for a place to host a wedding or some other event that requires a big space, The Clifton Center is worth checking out as well. The rates for rental can also be found on their website.

The Clifton Center is located at 2117 Payne Street.
