Downtown Louisville is the largest central business district in the state of Kentucky and is the oldest part of the city. Its roots date back to 1781 when a fort was built on what is now 7th and Main Street. In 1830, Louisville became Kentucky’s largest city, passing Lexington by 10,000 people. By the 1980’s, private
development companies started converting old warehouses into loft style apartments and in the 1990’s, high-rise condominiums started springing up all over the city. Some of the early examples of these condominiums are Waterfront Park Place and Fleur di Lis on Main St. For the past 10 years, the amount of residential property downtown has increased exponentially – mostly through residential condo development.
Along with offering a variety of residential options through high-rise condos, and a few townhomes and single family residences, downtown Louisville offers many exciting attractions. Residents and visitors alike can enjoy several renowned museums, including the Louisville Slugger and Mohammed Ali Museums, Fourth Street Live!, the Belle of Louisville, and many other quality attractions.
